The Force is devoted to the task of safeguarding the stability and safety in Hong Kong. For dealing with threats of terrorism, the Force has beefed up its ability to protect the different sectors of society, particularly the expatriate community in Hong Kong. The latter's support and co-operation are vital for the success of anti-terrorism strategies.

Therefore, the Force carried out an exercise at the Police Tactical Unit Headquarters early last month to demonstrate to members of the consular corps the Force's anti-terrorism capability and the professionalism of its related units. This demonstration was aimed at strengthening liaison with the corps and securing their support and trust.

Attending the anti-terrorism exercise, Commissioner Tsang Wai-hung pointed out that Hong Kong, being an international centre for finance and tourism, had to remain prepared for, and alert to, terrorist activities.

"We will continue to maintain a high degree of vigilance and conduct risk assessments so that appropriate deployment, arrangement and vigilance can be made.

"We will maintain a close liaison with overseas law enforcement agencies and intelligence bodies, and exchange latest intelligence with them so as to make accurate risk assessments," Mr Tsang added.

The Force Counter Terrorist Strategy mainly comprises "Prevention", "Protection", "Preparedness", "Pursuit" and "Recovery". The Force has in place a well-defined mechanism, well-trained units and comprehensive contingency plans to deal with different major incidents.
