In support of the Commissioner's Strategic Direction on "Engaging the Community", Lantau District (LTDIST) has recently held a series of seminars for security personnel working at residential estates in Tung Chung. Three seminars were conducted in March and last month for a total of over 200 security guards as well as their supervisors and managers.

At the seminars, Lantau North Division Commander Chung Ling-wing, supported by New Territories South Regional Crime Prevention Office, gave informative and interesting presentations, covering local crime trend, tips on thwarting prevalent crimes and cases of effective co-operation between police and security guards. The lively discussions that followed the presentations helped strengthen mutual understanding for maintaining security in the local community.

As most of the participants are also residents of the estates they serve, LTDIST Deputy Commander Frank Kwok, speaking at the opening of the seminars, appealed to them to put themselves in the position of the residents when they go about their jobs.

Officials from the Housing Authority Ma Wai-chau and Island District Councillors also turned up to lend support for the seminars, each of which concluded on a high note, with Island District Council Vice-chairperson, Mr Chan Chuen-heung; and Councillors Leung Siu-tong, Lo Kwong-shing and Tang Ka-biu chipping in with words of encouragement.
