A total of 970 Force members and their families showed their strong support for the fund-raising campaign, "Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics", on May 15 at Sha Tin Sports Ground.

After the Secretary for Security, Mr Ambrose S K Lee, Commissioner Tsang Wai-hung and other guests officiated in the opening ceremony, the Torch Run commenced with Assistant Commissioner (Operations) Mr Wong Chi-hung leading the Force runners on a 3.5 km route along Shing Mun River.

The Force raised over $500 000 out of a total donation of over $2 million. The top three fund-raising formations were Kowloon West Region, Information Services Wing and New Territorries North Region. The donation will finance mentally handicapped athletes' training in sports and participation in overseas competitions.

The Hong Kong Police Volunteer Services Corps provided about 100 volunteers to assist in the annual event.
