Following his official visits to Australian Federal Police and
Indonesian National Police in April, Commissioner Tsang Wai-hung led a
delegation to visit Singapore, Malaysia and Thailand between June 6 and
11 with a view to further strengthening the co-operation with the
strategic partners in Asia Pacific Region. The delegation members were
Crime Wing Headquarters Chief Superintendent Yu Mun-sang, Liaison
Bureau Acting Superintendent Li Kwai-wah, and CP's Personal Assistant
Kwok Ka-chuen.

During the visit, Mr Tsang paid
courtesy calls on Mr Ng Joo-hee, Commissioner of Singapore Police Force
(SPF), Tan Sri Haji Ismail Bin Haji Omar, Inspector General of Royal
Malaysian Police (RMP), and Mr Wichean Potephosree, Commissioner
General of Royal Thai Police (RTP). In addition, Mr Tsang held
meetings with senior officers of the police agencies.
In the meetings, Mr Tsang emphasised the importance of maintaining
close relationship with neighbouring law enforcement
counterparts. Furthermore, the Force will soon sign separately
comperhensive Memoranda of Understanding with SPF, RMP and RTP for
setting out the framework to tackle transnational illegal activities,
such as drug trafficking, money laundering and information technology
crime.
In Malaysia, Mr Tsang visited the newly formed ASEANAPOL Secretariat
and the Malaysian Witness Protection Unit (MWPU). The Executive
Director of the Secretariat, Modh Nadzri Bin Zainal Abidin, briefed Mr
Tsang on their work and modes of co-operation with the Police units in
the region. When visiting the MWPU, Mr Tsang discussed with
Cheong Koon Kock, the Acting Executive Director, about the training and
possible future co-operation between Hong Kong and the MWPU.
During the two-day visit in Thailand, the delegation visited the
"Tourist Police" and the RTP Units responsible for Counter-Terrorism.
Mr Tsang also visited the International Law Enforcement Academy (ILEA)
in Bangkok and paid a courtesy call on the Executive Director,
Nathathorn Prousoontor. During the meeting, they exchanged views
on possible co-operations on bilateral training as well as the
provision of suitable training for the Force's junior detectives at
ILEA Bangkok.
"The feedback from those Police Agencies' Chiefs concerning closer
partnership with the Force are positive and encouraging. It is
hoped that in the future, Hong Kong residents would receive more
comprehensive assistance when travelling to this Region," Mr Tsang
noted.
