The senior management of Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao police held the 17th Tripartite CID (Criminal Investigation Department) Heads' Meeting in Hong Kong on June 9 with a view to strengthening co-operation in fighting cross-boundary crimes and enhancing public order in the three places.

Led by Deputy Commissioner (Operations) Tang Kam-moon, representatives of the Force met with the delegates from Guangdong and Macao at Police Headquarters in Wan Chai.

The Deputy Director-General of Guangdong Provincial Public Security Department, Mr He Guangping, led the Guangdong delegation while the Commissioner General of Unitary Police Service, Mr Jose Proenca Branco, was the head of the Macao team.

During the meeting, tripartite CID heads exchanged views on the challenges encountered in the fight against cross-boundary crimes and discussed the various strategies adopted. They also reviewed the existing tripartite co-operation and liaison mechanism, and studied ways to further enhance their partnership.

Mr Tang said: "Besides further cementing our ties with our Mainland and Macao counterparts with regard to the exchange of criminal intelligence and criminal investigation, we will continue to make strenuous efforts to combat cross-boundary crimes through joint operations."

The meeting also had thorough discussion on enhancing training for tripartite criminal investigators and strengthening official visits and exchanges. The security arrangement for the World University Games (Universiade) to be held in Shenzhen in August was also discussed at the meeting.

"Hong Kong Police will collaborate with the authorities concerned to ensure the Universiade will be smoothly held in a safe environment," Mr Tang said.

Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao police have been working in perfect harmony for years which have resulted in the detection of many organised and serious crimes. It is evident that the close co-operation and liaison among tripartite criminal investigation departments have contributed to the fight against cross-boundary crimes.
