The 44th Anti-Illegal Immigrants Intelligence Exchange meeting was held in Shenzhen on May 27. The Force delegation to the meeting was led by Assistant Commissioner (Operations) Wong Chi-hung and comprised representatives from Operations Wing, Marine Region, Border District and Yuen Long District.

The Guangdong delegation, comprising representatives from Guangdong Border Defence Bureau (GDBDB), was led by GDBDB Deputy Director-General, Mr Liu Chuanjing. Mr Sun Huaizhong of the Hong Kong and Macao Office of Shenzhen Municipal Government also attended the meeting.

The co-operation and interaction between the Force and GDBDB has brought satisfactory results in tackling illegal immigrants (IIs). The number of IIs arrested has dropped by 18 percent from 3 701 in 2009 to 3 092 in 2010. The number of Non-ethnic Chinese II arrested in 2010 has decreased by 72 percent over that of 2009.

At the meeting, both sides agreed to step up exchange of II intelligence by perfecting the existing mechanism for co-operation. Another important issue discussed at the meeting was measures to deal with cross-boundary illegal activities prior to and during the 2011 Summer Universiade, which will be held in August. Apart from carrying out operations during this sports meet, Operations Wing will also conduct joint exercises with GDBDB.
