The Force Escort Group (FEG) has been for the past year helping the Traffic Branch of the Shenzhen Public Security Bureau (PSB) prepare for the World University Games which will be held in Shenzhen later this year.

The games, officially known as 2011 (26th) Summer Universiade, will take place between August 12 and 23. It is a multi-sport event organised for university students from all over the world by the International University Sports Federation. A large number of participants and VIPs are expected to attend.

Co-operation between the FEG and Shenzhen PSB started in July last year when Chief Inspector (CIP) Lee Kwong-lap, CIP Chik Ming-yam and Station Sergeant (SSgt) Ng Chung-king paid a two-day visit to give a briefing on the FEG's motorcade escort tactics. They also gave a series of presentations and shared their experiences with PSB officers responsible for planning and implementing motorcade escorts in Shenzhen during the Universiade.

Three months later in November, a delegation of 20 officers from the Shenzhen PSB Traffic Branch paid a visit to the Force to observe the FEG's tactics first hand.

Following on the successful exchanges last year, the Shenzhen PSB invited five FEG officers to visit them again in April this year. On this occasion, the FEG delegation comprised CIP Chik, SSgt Ng, Sergeants Au Yeung Chung-ching and Chan King-sheung and Woman Police Constable (WPC) Yip Pui-lam. During their visit, they gave a practical demonstration of riding skills at a training ground to over 60 PSB officers from all parts of Shenzhen.

Assistance for the Universiade preparations culminated last month with four PSB officers joining a five-day FEG standard course as observers and another 14 PSB officers joining a two-day familiarisation visit.

Shenzhen officers see what they gained from the exchanges over the past year as a great help to their preparation work. Through the exchanges, FEG and Shenzhen PSB have further strengthened their co-operation and relationship.
