Mr Peter Hunt,

Assistant Commissioner of Police,

Hong Kong Police Force.

Dear Sir,

This letter is to express my deep appreciation for the assistance recently provided to my family by the Hong Kong Police Force. This assistance truly lived up to the traditions of the Hong Kong Police.

My wife and mother-in-law, who are both Singaporeans, recently visited Hong Kong on holiday. On May 11, 2011 they were shopping in Causeway Bay when a problem arose. At approximately 3 pm, my mother-in-law who is 75 got separated from my wife, and found herself alone in a city she had never been to before. My wife, who immediately began looking for her mother, was very upset.

Fortunately, my mother-in-law, having watched many Hong Kong dramas, knew what to do. She approached a uniformed officer of the Hong Kong Police, and asked for his assistance.

The officer was extremely helpful to my mother-in-law. While he was no doubt busy with his other duties, the officer personally escorted my mother-in-law back to her hotel located behind Times Square on Sharp Street East. As my mother-in-law was not able to provide the hotel name or address, the officer escorted her around the area until they located the hotel.

My mother-in-law believes that the officer's family name is Ho.

The officer was very kind and considerate towards my mother-in-law, and acted in an exemplary manner throughout this episode. I cannot think of many other countries in the world where my mother-in-law would have received this level of assistance.

I would be very grateful if my thanks and the thanks of my family could be passed on to this officer. His assistance was very gratefully received.

T. Goodchild

(Editor's Note: The officer praised in this letter is PC Ho King-sun of Patrol Sub-unit 1 Wan Chai Division)
