Senior Superintendent (Efficiency Studies) Henry Tam of Service Quality Wing met Mr Giuliano Zaccardelli, Director of the Strategic Planning Directorate, INTERPOL, in Lyon, France, at the 3rd INTERPOL Strategic Planners Meeting from May 30 to 31.

Participating in the meeting were heads of strategic planning units of police forces as well as commissioner-rank officers from 21 member countries across Africa, America, Asia, Europe and the Middle East.

The Force has been a member of the INTERPOL Strategic Planners Network since the first meeting was convened in 2009 to facilitate and reinforce strategic planning amongst member countries, and to learn and share best practices on strategic planning, environmental scanning and management support structure. The Force has worked in close collaboration with the Network in pursuing INTERPOL's vision of "Connecting Police for a Safer World".

The 2011 meeting sought to review implementation of INTERPOL's strategic planning, validate INTERPOL's 2011 Environmental Scan, and facilitate an in-depth dialogue on the policing implications brought about by the dynamic changes in the regional, national and international environments.

"An excellent forum which promotes exchange of information on security, crime trends and changes, and establishment of overarching strategic priorities in policing and security," said Mr Tam, who presented in the meeting the Force's Environmental Scan 2011, highlighting the key findings of the Scan, challenges for the Force, policing implications, and development of Force Strategic Management.
