Led by Kwun Tong District (KTDIST) and KTDIST Junior Police Call (JPC) Honorary Presidents, 35 JPC members recently sampled flying experience during a three-day "Aviation Exchange Tour" in Guangzhou. During a visit to the Guangdong Science Centre, they experienced a spacewalk and the life of astronauts in spaceships. To promote academic and cultural exchanges between students from the Mainland and Hong Kong, the JPC members also spent a whole day in a school, learning about aviation science and attending seminars and a Small Rocket Design and Launching Competition. These activities not only enabled them to explore aviation technologies, but also enhanced their understanding of the study cultures in Hong Kong and Guangzhou. On the last day of the tour, the members toured the Huiyang Shengyun Aviation Training Base, where they boarded a "Powered Parachute" and enjoyed the fun of flying in the sky. Commenting on the exchange tour, JPC member Ho Wing-yan said: "After attending a series of activities, I was inspired by the optimism and enthusiasm of Mainland primary school students towards their studies. Moreover, it is a rare and valuable experience to board the 'Powered Parachute' as I am afraid of height. But with the support and encouragement of my fellow members, I managed to overcome the fright of height and stretch 'my wings in the sky'. The tour gave us a challenge journey to explore aviation knowledge." 'Blessings for you with rice dumplings'
Meanwhile at their clubhouse on May 28, KTDIST JPC members staged a "Blessings for You with Rice Dumplings" programme to mark the Dragon Boat Festival. On that day they learned how to wrap rice dumplings and tasted some of the dumplings they made. All the other dumplings were donated to the needy in the local community as a gesture of their warm festive blessings. The event also promoted parent-child relationship as a member's mother volunteered to be instructor on wrapping rice dumplings. The arrangement not only raised young people's interest in the traditional Chinese festivals, but also helped prevent traditional Chinese food like rice dumplings from being lost with the passage of time.
