Superintendent (SP) Crime Support Fok Lok-sang recently attended an eight-week Australian Federal Police (AFP) Exchange Programme in Australia.

In Sydney, SP Fok was attached for two weeks to the Criminal Assets Team responsible for identifying and confiscating criminal assets. This team is a multi-agency task force consisting of officers seconded from various departments in order to pool all relevant expertises to address a policing issue. SP Fok had an opportunity to observe how an anti-drug operation nabbed two South East Asian dangerous drug traffickers and seized 42 kg of heroin.

SP Fok next visited the Crime Operations Team for another two weeks to understand its strategy and tactics in dealing with serious and organised crime.

He also attended a two-day national conference on "Meeting Needs of Victims of Crime" where state police, academics, social workers and voluntary services staff discussed a variety of topics, including victim's participation in the judicial process, victim's impact statement to the court, victim-centred approach to sexual assault and integrated responses to domestic violence.

In Canberra, SP Fok met the National Coordinator in Protection and shared the experience in witness protection, besides visiting the National Surveillance Team.

Later, SP Fok was attached to the ACT Crime Prevention Team, which is responsible for liaison with victims, youths, seniors and aboriginals, a family violence intervention programme and drug and alcohol diversion programmes.

As well as learning AFP's good practices, SP Fok also briefed AFP officers on some aspects of the policing in Hong Kong, including Commissioner's Operational Priorities 2011, drugs situation, overseas and Mainland liaison, domestic violence, witness protection and integrity management.

On May 15, SP Fok took time out to join the 20th Sydney Half Marathon to maintain his physical fitness.

Even in official visit, SP Fok never forgets to maintain his physical fitness in top form
