Tsim Sha Tsui Division (TSTDIV) has formed a Community Liaison Group as part of its efforts to promote community policing and help frontline officers better serve the local community.

All along, a lot of Non-ethnic Chinese (NEC) live and work in Tsim Sha Tsui. In view of this situation, TST Divisional Commander Paul Renouf and Assistant Divisional Commander (Operations) Fung Wai-ming see the need to set up the Community Liaison Group to disseminate anti-crime messages to the NEC, provide support to and help them integrate into the local community.

The Community Liaison Group officially came into being with an inauguration ceremony on June 24. On hand to lend support to the Group were Ms Kwan Sau-ling, Yau Tsim Mong District Councillor; Mr Nanu Lachman, Yau Tsim Junior Police Call Honorary Advisor and Chairman of India Club; Mr Mohammad Liaqat, President of Pakistan Islamic Welfare Union Inc. (HK) Ltd; representatives of the Incorporated Owners of Chungking Mansions, and supervisors of Christian Action Chungking Mansions Service Centre and Society of Rehabilitation and Crime Prevention Hong Kong. They also witnessed 12 police officers being appointed as Liaison Officers.

The Community Liaison Group consists of one Senior Inspector, one Sergeant and 10 police constables who will perform the related secondary duties. As well as daily patrol, they will man two hotlines 24 hours a day to respond to requests for immediate assistance.

Addressing the Liaison Officers at the inauguration ceremony, Acting Yau Tsim District Commander Chung Sze-pong said: "The Community Liaison Group is a symbol of the close relationship between the Force and NEC. Every Liaison Officer must keep on striving to maintain the systematic and sustainable development of the plan to provide services to different races in the community."
