NTN RCPO steers youths to straight path

Youngsters gathering in or frequenting public places or amusement centres might become potential recruitment targets of bad elements, or might commit delinquency under the influence of their peers. In view of this, New Territories North Regional Crime Prevention Office (NTN RCPO) mounted an operation codenamed "Megastrength" to prevent youngsters from being led astray or harassed by bad elements whilst taking part in activities in the local community, and to encourage them to take a positive outlook of life and stay away from crime and drugs.

To achieve maximum publicity for the operation, NTN RCPO held a kick-off ceremony at the Tai Po Mega Mall on June 30. Among those present were NTN Regional Commander Austin Kerrigan, chairpersons of district fight crime committees and representatives from the Federation of Parent-Teacher Associations and non-government organisations, as well as teachers and students.

Besides stepping up strategic anti-crime patrols and law enforcement action, NTN Region will organise various activities for young people under operation "Megastrength", including a Juvenile Protection Football Training Scheme, an anti-drug abuse Day Camp, visits to correctional institutions, volunteer services and crime prevention booths. NTN Region hopes these activities would offer the participants an enjoyable and meaningful summer vacation.
