The Director of the International Co-operation of the French National Police, Mr Emile Perez, led a four-member delegation to pay a courtesy call on Commissioner Tsang Wai-hung at Police Headquarters on July 22. During the meeting, Mr Tsang signed a Letter of Intent with Mr Perez, which sets out a framework for bolstering partnership in capacity building and professional development between the two police forces. Particular focuses have been put on the technical co-operation in respect of illegal immigration, human trafficking, cyber crimes, forgery and counterfeit, and trafficking of narcotics and psychotropic substances. Following the signatory ceremony, Mr Tsang and the Force senior management held a meeting with the delegation on various policing issues of mutual concern. Recalling his visit to the Force about ten years ago, Mr Perez said he was particularly impressed at that time with how the Force managed to strike a well balance between utilising technology and human resources in the daily policing work. In the current visit, Mr Perez was very delighted that the Force has further advanced in this field and he was looking forward to working more closely with the Force. During a brief experience-sharing on Public Order events, Mr Perez mentioned that the police in Paris is facing the similar challenges of the Force in terms of policing thousands of protests every year. He has high regard for the professionalism the Force has displayed in upholding the law and maintaining public safety, enabling members of the public to enjoy freedom of expression.
