Chief Superintendent (CSP) Bernie So of Personnel Services & Staff Relations (PS&SR) Branch met the Chairman of the Overseas Inspectors' Association (OIA), Mr Ronald Abbot, and the association's Executive Committee members at a liaison luncheon on June 22. The OIA, formerly known as EIA, was established in 1947, representing the interests of overseas inspectorate officers about welfare and condition of services. Currently, it is taking an interest in issues related to the education of members' children, in particular school fees and the admission mechanism which affect them under the existing schooling system in Hong Kong. As well as representing its members in a balanced and professional manner over the years, members of the OIA remaining in the Force after 1997 continue to contribute significantly to the success of the Force. A recent example was that the OIA worked closely with the Force Management and other staff associations on the Grade Structure Review. During the process, the OIA played a significant role in making many constructive and valuable recommendations, leading to the final outcome, which was considered fair and reasonable by Force members. On behalf of PS&SR Branch, CSP So thanked the OIA for bridging communication between the Force Management and the Staff Side. He is confident that the OIA will continue to further strengthen the well-established partnership with the Force Management, and to foster effective internal communication, good staff morale, and the professional image of the Force. At the luncheon, Mr So also took the opportunity to bid farewell to Superintendent Simon Hannaford, who has recently been promoted to the rank of Superintendent and stepped down as Vice-chairman of the OIA. Mr So has forged closer ties with OIA members |
