CCB fraud investigators meet professional accountants |

At the invitation of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA), officers from Commercial Crime Bureau (CCB) conducted a professional seminar titled "Accountants and Commercial Crimes in Modern Regime" at the Conrad Hotel on July 11. At the seminar, Woman Senior Inspector (WSIP) Vivian Lee introduced to over 200 practising accountants from all disciplines the different types of criminal offences that commercial accountants face from time to time. She also explored the practical indicators and other means that would help early identify and prevent commercial crimes. Through case studies, WSIP Lee recommended ways to deal with the more common commercial crimes in a bid to help accountants fulfil both their legal liabilities and social responsibilities. The seminar was held in line with the Commissioner's Operational Priorities 2011 to adopt a multi-agency and community-based approach to promote awareness of, and to prevent, commercial fraud. WSIP Lee's talk was stimulating and engaged the audience in a frank and open discussion. And there has been positive feedback on the seminar from the ACCA. "The event is a great success and we will continue our partnership with other professional bodies in the commercial sector to tackle commercial crime", WSIP Lee commented. In her own right, she has been a certified public accountant since 2005 and a fraud investigator in CCB since 2009. CCB SIP Cyril Tsang will conduct another technical seminar titled "Money Laundering - An Accountant's Perspective" on August 10 as part of the same series of professional seminars for ACCA members.
