With the onset of the school summer vacation, two platoons of the Police Tactical Unit (PTU) - No.2 and No.4 Platoons of "D" Company, Kowloon East Region - took a few hours' time out from anti-crime patrol on July 7 to undertake training to beef up their ability to handle youth-related incidents during the vacation.

The training was conducted at the old Tsz Wan Shan Police Station on searching suspicious vehicles, dealing with street peddling of dangerous drugs and night violence, under the watchful eyes of Senior Superintendent (Operations) Kowloon East Barry Smith, who offered a lot of support and advice. To make the training more effective, PTU Headquarters sent an experienced trainer to offer professional expertise on the spot.

"Overall the training is a great success. It is an investment on upgrading officers' skills and also an excellent opportunity to enhance internal communication," said "D" Company Commander, Superintendent Catherine Kwan.
