Police Badminton Club and Catering, Clubs and Sports Group kicked off the "Summer Parent-children Badminton World" at Police Sports and Recreation Club on July 9. This annual event is running for the 13th year. Since its launch in 1998, around 15 families with some 30 people have taken part in the badminton programme every year.

Superintendent (SP) Wong Koon-ho, who has been the chief organiser of the programme since 1998, disclosed how he came up with the idea of the programme: "Force parents are strong supporters of the healthy lifestyle promotion and are keen that their children should take part in meaningful activities in summer. This Badminton World has been tailor-made for parents and their children to learn badminton together during the summer vacation. Enrolment for the programme each year is overwhelming."

This year, 15 children aged between eight and 15 are joining training with 14 parents. Police Badminton Club has appointed Mr Poon Chi-ho and Mr Law Chun-hin as Chief Coach and Assistant Coach respectively.

SP Wong has a high regard for the two coaches. "Mr Poon was one of the top members of the Hong Kong Badminton Team and has represented HKSAR in international tournaments for many years. Mr Law was one of the participants of the first Summer Parent-children Badminton World. A year-one undergraduate, he is using the summer vacation to promote badminton to youngsters," said SP Wong.

After a parent-child badminton competition on August 13, the Badminton World will conclude on August 27 with all participants receiving certificates of completion of training.

The Badminton World is very popular with Force parents and children
