To attract high calibre candidates to join the Force, especially fresh school leavers, Recruitment Division (RECDIV) staged the Police Recruitment Day at Police Headquarters on July 16.

The Force's recruitment target for the financial year 2011/12 is 920 officers, comprising 170 Probationary Inspectors (PI) and 750 Recruit Police Constables (RPC). This major annual recruitment event aims at recruiting people who possess the competences required of a police officer, share the same values of the Force and aspire to serving the community as a professional police officer.

The Recruitment Day provided one-stop services on the spot, including Initial Screening (weight and height measurement) and scheduling of Written Examination for PI applicants as well as Initial Screening and Group Interview for RPC applicants. This arrangement shortened the time of selection processes by about three weeks.

"This year we have successfully attracted 2 276 applicants. A total of 1 340 applicants comprising 342 PI and 998 RPC applications attended the Recruitment Day," said RECDIV Superintendent Ho Kin-man.

RECDIV has adopted a multi-media strategy to enhance publicity in a bid to appeal to potential applicants. "We place advertisement in newspapers and the Internet. With the support of non-government organisations and uniformed groups, the Recruitment Day was also widely introduced to our target candidates through their webpages and notice boards," RECDIV Chief Inspector Cheung Kwok-wai pointed out.

Having passed the initial screening and group interview on the spot, RPC applicants were immediately arranged to attend Physical Fitness Test at Police College on July 19 while PI applicants sat for Written Examination at the end of last month. Successful RPC applicants may start their foundation training at Police College as early as October this year.

Once again the Police Recruitment Day has proved to be very successful
