Since March last year, Crime New Territories North (CRM NTN) Headquarters have been running "Project Sunflower", with the aim of engaging the community in promoting family harmony and enhancing the professionalism of frontline officers in handling cases of domestic conflict.

"Combatting Sexual Offences" is one of NTN Region's operational priorities for this year. Therefore, in a bid to make the public more aware of how to protect children from sexual abuse, CRM NTN and Social Welfare Department jointly held a day camp and seminar at the Hong Kong Baptist Assembly Camp in Fanling on July 23 for about 80 parents and 130 children aged from eight to 14. On hand to welcome them were CRM NTN Superintendent (Operations) Choy Wai-fu and Ms Leung Mei-wah, Senior Social Work Officer of Family and Child Protective Services Unit (Yuen Long).

At the seminar, Woman Senior Inspector Ada Lam, Officer-in-Charge of Child Abuse Investigation Unit NTN gave a talk on the recent trend of sexual crimes and handling of vulnerable witnesses. Following the talk, the guest speakers, Dr Tsui Pui-wang, Police Clinical Psychologist, and Ms Chan Lai-ping, Social Work Officer, talked about protecting children from sexual abuse.

The participants showed a great interest in the talks and had an active interaction with the guest speakers. In particular, the parents appreciated having an opportunity to exchange views with Dr Tsui and Ms Chan to learn from them the ways to communicate with their children on a sensitive topic.

At the end of the seminar, the participants were distributed with anti-sexual crime pamphlets and souvenirs. In the afternoon, the parents enjoyed a relaxing afternoon in the camp with their children, taking part in rope climbing, archery, cycling and swimming.

The day camp and seminar are well received by parents and their children
