At the invitation by the Islamic Union of Hong Kong, Commissioner Tsang Wai-hung and Wan Chai District Commander Lam Man-sai attended annual feast of Ramadan on August 4. The invitation underscored the union's appreciation of the Force's efforts to foster harmony between the Non-ethnic Chinese and the locals, and motivate the NEC to integrate into the community. About 100 years old in history, the Islamic Union of Hong Kong is one of the most developed Islamic organisations in Hong Kong. Relocated in the 80s, the organisation now is situated on Oi Kwan Road, Wan Chai, and its chairman is Mr Justice Suffiad, Judge of the Court of First Instance of the High Court. According to the Islamic calendar, this year's Ramadan starts on August 1 and ends on August 29. During this period, adult Muslims must fast from dawn till sunset. However, there are exceptions, such as the sick, pregnant women and women performing breast-feeding, all of whom can postpone their fast to a later date. The Islamic Union of Hong Kong also invited the Consul-Generals of Indonesia, Malaysia, Egypt, Iran and Kazakhstan in Hong Kong to the feast, during which Mr Tsang and Wan Chai District officers had a wide-ranging discussion on police work with the hosts, enhancing the understanding and liaison between the two parties.
