Eleven trainee Barristers and Solicitors of the Department of Justice (DoJ) visited Central District Headquarters (CDIST HQ) as part of their Criminal Advocacy Course on August 24. This visit programme, a joint arrangement between CDIST and DoJ, has been running for four years with the aim of giving the trainees a better idea of police work and fostering a closer working relationship.

The three-hour visit started with a welcome address by Assistant District Commander (Crime), Superintendent Kenneth Pemberton. After this, Detective Chief Inspector Tse Tsui-yan introduced the crime investigation procedures and organisation structure of the Force.

After the briefing, Detective Inspector Wong Kam-fung and Woman Inspector Mak Shui-ying took the visitors on a guided tour of the key facilities in Central Police Station, including the first New Generation Report Room, Identification Parade Room and Video Recording Interview Rooms. The visitors were also given a briefing on police procedures, including use of IT.

The visit concluded with a briefing on the career path of Junior Inspectors, and an interactive case-sharing session on the challenges being faced by frontline investigation teams. The DoJ trainees found the police presentations useful for their jobs and took the view that the visit had enhanced understanding, communication and partnership between their department and the Force.
