Force achievements in WPFG
On the second day of the WPFG, New York City was hit by super hurricane "Irene", forcing the cancellation of some events like dragon boat racing and sailing. Nevertheless, inclement weather and rescheduling of competition events in short notice did not affect the Force delegation at all. Thanks to Force athletes' determination, drive and efforts, the delegation pulled off outstanding results: a total of 73 medals comprising 17 gold, 31 silver and 25 bronze medals. Winning the medals were teams of Taekwondo, Badminton, Indoor Rowing, Golfing, Tennis as well as Table tennis, Squash, Boxing, Judo and Swimming. On top of these, the performances of the Police Shooting Team, Karate Team and Athletics Team were equally remarkable, fully demonstrating their prowess with the Police Shooting Team capturing 23 medals (five gold, six silver and 12 bronze), Karate Team taking home five gold and the Athletics Team capturing another two gold, three silver and six bronze medals. These victories showed the delegation members' , versatility in sports. While in New York, representatives of Force delegation attended a dinner reception hosted by National Asian Peace Officers' Association, Society of Asian Federal Officers and Asian Jade Society of New York Police Department. The representatives had a very good opportunity not only to share work experience but also to forge friendship and a communication network between Hong Kong and New York. A celebration dinner was held at the Police Officers' Club on September 16. Among those congratulating delegation members at the reception for their accomplishment were Commissioner Tsang Wai-hung and Senior Directorate Group officers. Videos and photographs taken at the WPFG were shown at the reception, showing team members' victories in the event and bringing them many fond memories. during hurricane
When hurricane "Irene" swept through New York, delegation members never forgot they are police officer no matter where they are. When the hurricane caused flooding near the hotel they were staying, Adventure Club members went to the aid of a family of three and two New York Police officers being trapped in the flooding, and rescued them to a safe place. In another case, a 21-year-old girl from Hong Kong, who was an exchange student, was trapped at the New York Kennedy Airport due to cancellation of flights. With the help of the delegation's logistic and support team and a female boxing team member, who offered to share her accommodation, the girl was spared the agony of staying overnight at the airport. The girl later wrote to the Force to thank the officers concerned. The letter is published in the Appreciation Corner in Chinese section.
