Liaison Bureau (LB) organised the "International Counter Terrorism Investigators Workshop (ICTIW) Hong Kong" for 23 Force members at Police College on November 28 and December 9. This two-week workshop was the outcome of the partnership between the Australian Federal Police (AFP) and the Force after the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding in April this year. As part of the close working relationship and collaboration between the two police forces, AFP sent a Counter Terrorism Capacity Building Team overseas for the first time. Officiating at the opening of the ICTIW were Director of Crime and Security Lo Wai-chung and Commander Sue Thomas of AFP. Speaking at the opening, Mr Lo said: "The course aims at equipping participants with knowledge and experience to tackle international terrorism by learning the Australian experience. It is also a collective determination within Hong Kong Police to work with our international partners and play our part in regional security." In the certificate presentation ceremony at the conclusion of the workshop, Assistant Commissioner (Crime) Lo Mung-hung said: "In the globalised world it is clear we need to work hard to protect people at home or abroad. Hong Kong is not immune to international terrorism. Strong partnership in the Region is essential for combatting the ongoing threat. This workshop is therefore an excellent example of the joint commitment of, and strong partnership between, the Australian Federal Police and Hong Kong Police." Speaking at the certificate presentation ceremony, Assistant Commissioner (Crime) Lo Mung-hung reiterates the importance of partnership in combatting terrorism |
