To support the Commissioner's Strategic Direction on strengthening criminal intelligence, New Territories North (NTN) Region has rolled out a "Comprehensive Intelligence Gathering Strategy", part of which is establishing an Intelligence Liaison Officer and Intelligence Liaison Assistant Scheme. Under the scheme, NTN Regional Headquarters has selected and appointed officers from the Regional Intelligence Unit as Intelligence Liaison Officers (ILOs) and officers from the Uniform Branch and Traffic units as Intelligence Liaison Assistants (ILAs). Through regular meetings, they would share information of prevailing crime trends and criminal intelligence more effectively. After a ceremony in mid November in which appointment letters were presented to the ILOs and ILAs, Acting NTN Regional Commander So Kam-sing shared with the new recruits his experience and stressed the importance of gathering and sharing of intelligence. "Officers have many opportunities to come into contact with the community. With Uniform Branch officers making up over 80 per cent of total manpower of NTN Region, our intelligence network would be enhanced immensely if their attention and effort could be drawn to intelligence gathering," Mr So noted. |
