Fight Crime Festival"
Kwun Tong District (KTDIST) staged the "Tseung Kwan O Division Fight Crime Festival 2011" at Tseung Kwan O Police Station on December 17 for local resident to get a better idea of police work. Taking the form of a carnival, the event introduced KTDIST's current education and promotion projects with stage performances and booths set up by various formations, including the Emergency Unit, Traffic and Regional Crime Prevention Office of Kowloon East, as well as Police Dog Unit, to display police equipment and stage demonstrations. "Early Bird"
Operation "Walking with Police" is a joint effort of KTDIST and schools in Kwun Tong, under which KTDIST officers and teachers conducted patrols near schools during lunch time and after school to prevent students from being harassed or tempted by undesirable elements. In Operation "Early Bird", School Liaison Officers briefed students at morning assemblies on the current trend of youth crimes in the hope they would remain vigilant and not involved in crimes. In addition, KTDIST has launched "Project Embrace" with a secondary school in Tseung Kwan O to help students enhance their values and ability to cope with adversity through foot drill training. To persuade the youth to stay away from crime, KTDIST has formed the "Green Jumper" police volunteer team to drive home anti-crime messages to students at ball games and sharing sessions, and by enhancing the communication between police and schools. In addition, KTDIST has teamed up with Police Chinese Wushu Club and Hong Kong Federation of Youth Groups to launch the "Project Brick Breaker" to offer training in Chinese Kungfu-Sanshou to youths with the objective of enhancing their sense of law-abiding and helping them to establish their goals in life. As victims of telephone deception are mostly elderly, KTDIST, Kwun Tong and Sai Kung District Fight Crime Committees and elderly centres in Kwun Tong have jointly launched a "Fight Crime Elderly Ambassador" project. In the past years, KTDIST trained up more than 200 senior citizens to be Fight Crime Ambassadors for visiting elderly centres to drive home anti-deception messages with dramas. Tackling youth drug abuse is a top priority for KTDIST. In conjunction with the Kwun Tong and Sai Kung District Fight Crime Committees and Lutheran Centre, KTDIST has rolled out a public education project to provide healthy activities for youngsters, using primary and secondary schools as a platform. The activities included seminars and a host of anti-drug programmes, all designed to encourage them to nurture peer relationship to resist drugs. Flat One Alarm"
As combatting prevalent crimes, such as burglary and quick cash crimes, remains one of its operational priorities, KTDIST has organised the "Crime Prevention Partnership Programme" and the "Community Network" in a bid to improve the professional quality of security guards and their sense of crime prevention. To prevent burglaries in the rural area, KTDIST and Sai Kung District Fight Crime Committee have jointly launched a "One Flat One Alarm" programme to publicise anti-rural burglary messages. To help Non-ethnic Chinese (NEC) residents in Kwun Tong integrate into the community and to have better communication with police, Tseung Kwan O Division has launched the "NEC Integration Programme" by paying regular visits to boost mutual understanding and minimise misunderstanding that may arise from law enforcement actions. KTDIST also pitched in for the "Legend Formation - For children" Project, which was a joint effort of the Rotary Club and 11 non-government organisations in Kwun Tong to provide education and development opportunities for underprivileged families and NEC children.
