DFCC tours bar area to see policing efforts
The Wan Chai District Fight Crime Committee (DFCC) visited Wan Chai Division on the evening of March 2 to gain first hand knowledge of the efforts being made to tackle late night violence, public concerns of alcoholism, drinking by minors and noise nuisance from bars. During this fact-finding visit, Wan Chai District Commander Lam Man-sai gave a presentation on her strategy to tackle alcohol-related incidents.
Ms Lam informed the DFCC members that last year late night violence cases were down by 16 per cent, compared with 2010, in particular violent crime related to upstairs bars, which decreased by as much as 67 per cent over the previous year.
The DFCC delegation, led by Chairman, Mr Lam Sek-kong, and Wan Chai District Officer, Miss Angela Luk, greatly appreciated Wan Chai District’s efforts to tackle problems in the bar area. Following Ms Lam's presentation, the delegation was taken on a guided tour of the bar area along Lockhart Road to see the practical difficulties facing frontline officers.
