A total of 271 winners of the Hongkong Bank Foundation Junior Police Call (JPC) Awards 2011 were commended on March 17 for their outstanding contributions in disseminating fight crime messages, promoting the JPC Scheme, as well as organising and participating in community services.

They were presented with commendation trophies and cash awards from Commissioner Tsang Wai-hung and HSBC Chief Operating Officer Asia Pacific Region, Mr Raymond Cheng, at a presentation ceremony.

Speaking at the ceremony, Police Public Relations Branch (PPRB) Chief Superintendent (CSP) Wong Kwok-wai, pointed out that the JPC Scheme had seen significant developments and secured support from the community over the past 37 years.

"JPC members have benefited from various training courses, as well as Mainland and overseas visits. They're committed to serving and caring for the community through active participation in volunteer services, as well as fight crime and anti-drug activities," he said.

Noting that the scheme currently had more than 190 000 members, including some 1 130 Non-ethnic Chinese youths, CSPWong thanked JPC Honorary Presidents, school principals, teachers and school clubs for their unfailing support that has made the scheme a great success.

Mr Cheng also commended the scheme's positive impacts on young people's personal growth. He said: "HSBC has been a strong supporter of education, in particular projects designed to enhance students' holistic development. We are proud to have funded the JPC Awards Scheme since 1986, and hope JPC members will strive to develop a positive attitude and be better equipped for challenges and responsibilities through participation in JPC activities."

Organised by the Force with a total funding of more than $5 million sponsored by the Hongkong Bank Foundation for the past 26 years, the Awards comprise five categories: Best JPC Member, Best JPC Leader/Advanced Leader, Best JPC School Club (Primary School), Best JPC School Club (Secondary School) and Best JPC District Council.

A selection panel made up of representatives from PPRB, HSBC, JPC Central Advisory Board and a non-government organisation picked the winners.
