Ten Superintendents (SP) of the Force, along with 12 of their Canadian counterparts, attended the first classroom phase of an International Executive Development in Policing (IEDP) Programme at the Canadian Police College (CPC) in Ottawa, Canada, from March 26 to April 4. The IEDP is a ten-month police leadership development programme comprising two online and two onsite phases, delivered jointly by the CPC and Police College. The Force party was accompanied by Police College Deputy Director Philip Sham, Professional Development Learning Centre Senior Superintendent Samson Cho and Superintendent (Management Learning) Steven Tait as members of the training team. In addition to CPC staff, also in the training team were Executive Director of the Australian Institute of Police Management, Mr Warwick Jones, and Deputy Chief Constable of the Netherlands Police Agency, Mr Jan Van Loosbroek. During the nine-day onsite delivery, a number of Police Chiefs, academics and practitioners spoke on various subjects in highly interactive and thought-provoking workshops, allowing Force members and Canadian police officers to share experiences and discuss the many common situations they had faced. One of the objectives of the delivery was to prepare the officers for completing a Strategic Change project in the coming six months, or at least reaching the project's initial implementation phase. The project aims at developing their potential in leading changes. Police College will host the final part of the IEDP in October this year when the Canadian officers travel to Hong Kong to attend more workshops and discuss the learning experience related to strategic changes. The IEDP is the first leadership development programme Police College has designed, developed and delivered with a renowned overseas training partner. The joint programme brings an international dimension, which will enable the participants not only to learn about how other police forces operate, but also to develop international professional networks for their careers. |
