Marine Region held an Orientation Day for 26 mentees of the Marine Police Mentorship Programme (MPMP) from Hong Kong Sea School (HKSS), Hong Kong Sea Cadet Corps (HKSCC) and Maritime Services Training Institute (MSTI) at HKSCC's Headquarters on March 24. One of the objectives of the event, which was organised by Head Mentor Joseph Li, was to identify young people associated with HKSS, HKSCC and MSTI, who are interested in life at sea and nautical matters, and possess the basic qualities required of a good police officer. In his opening speech, Deputy Head Mentor Law ka-hong outlined the work of Marine Region and the Force's recruitment strategy and pointed out that the MPMP aimed at inspiring young people to join the Force and subsequently Marine Region. The Orientation Day provided a forum for enhancing the communication between the mentors and the mentees. The mentees participated in group activities based on the Force's Vision, Common Purposes and Values. Through the activities and subsequent discussion sessions, the mentees gained more insight into the duty and job of a police officer. They also had an opportunity to boost their confidence in communicating with other people and to put to the test their problem-solving ability. Following the activities, MPMP mentors and mentor assistants shared their knowledge and good practices with the mentees. At the invitation of Marine Region, the Physical Training and First Aid Unit of Police College provided a presentation on the physical fitness requirements and health screening for police recruitment. The Orientation Day concluded with Mr Li encouraging the mentees to try their best to achieve their goal of becoming a police officer. ![]() |
