In the wake of the widespread use of the Internet and computer in recent years, conventional modus operandi has appeared in the cyber world and technology crime has showed an upward trend. In line with the Commissioner's Operation Priorities and the New Territories South Regional Operational Priorities on fighting technology crime, Tsuen Wan District (TWDIST) has included technology crime in its Action Plan for this year and formulated relevant strategies. One of the strategies was rolled out on April 30 when TWDIST Commander Lam Man-wing appointed a group of 13 "I.T. Ambassadors". The "I.T. Ambassadors" will tackle technology crime and enhance information security in various aspects. First of all, they will organise a workshop known as "Project Firesale", and invite officers to attend to share the knowledge of technology crime and to boost their information security capability through internal training and experience sharing. The "ambassadors" will also pass on what they have learned to their units and teams on training days for the benefit of frontline officers. The "ambassadors" will engage the community with publicity and education programmes to make the general public more aware of information security and the hazard of technology crime. The "ambassadors" have planned to visit various sectors of the community, such as commercial companies, schools, youth centres and even cyber cafés, to promote computer and information security as well as technology crime prevention measures by distributing leaflets and offering talks or other means. Finally, TWDIST will co-operate with stakeholders in delivering seminars and training to frontline units so as to enhance their ability to tackle technology crime, in particular support for intelligence gathering. The new I.T. Ambassadors have geared up for their task |
