To attract more candidates with the right calibre to join the Force, Recruitment Division held a Police Recruitment Seminar at Police College on May 26. The seminar was so well received that an extra session had to be conducted to satisfy the needs of walk-in participants. As a result, a total of four sessions were held.

The contents of the programme of the seminar included introduction of selection process, interview skills, physical fitness test demonstration and on-site initial screening for height, weight and eyesight.

At one of the sessions, Director of Management Services Tang How-kong, in a bid to inspire the participants to join the Force, spoke of the bitters and sweets of his 33 years' service as a professional police officer. He reminded the participants to be realistic in choosing a career and not to focus just on good pay if they wish to take up police work as their career. "Though competition in joining the Force is tough, the Force will groom those with the right calibre," he noted.

Despite hoisting of Amber Rainstorm Signal, about 1 000 participants attended the seminar, a 60 per cent increase over last year's figure.

The recruitment target of the Force for 2012/13 is 1 070 officers, including 180 Probationary Inspectors and 890 Recruit Police Constables. The upcoming recruitment activities will be Recruitment Express and Recruitment Day next month.
