Appreciation Corner (2)

Dear Sir,

The purpose of this Note is to express my sincere thanks for the very kind help provided to me by the Hong Kong Police of the Castle Peak Police Station, when I made an emergency call for assistance from near the corner of Tai Lam Chung Reservoir / Tong Shan Rds on May 9 around 5 to 6 pm.

I had been up on the Tai Lam Country Trail on the main ridge overlooking Yuen Long and Kam Tin to take advantage of the photographic opportunities offered by the fine cloud free weather that day.

Unfortunately, the day's heat (32C+) affected me rather more adversely than I had anticipated and on descending to the TLC & TS Roads.

I was dehydrated, anxious and uncomfortable and felt the need and deemed it prudent to call for assistance from the Emergency Call station.

The response from the 'on duty' officer at Castle Peak Police Station was most heartening and cheered me up immensely. His response made me immediately feel much better.

A Police vehicle arrived in due course and in what seemed no time at all. The two police officers, polite and courteous, in addition to enquiring as to my well-being, were both reassuring and cheering. At my request, they transported me to the 692 Bus Station on Castle Peak Rd at the end of Tai Lam Chung Res Rd.

The quality of the assistance of the 'on duty' officer at Castle Peak Police Station and of the two attending police officers, in response to my Emergency Call, was first class and a credit to the Hong Kong Police.

I have to say that in 37 or so years of hiking and enjoying Hong Kong's country-
side, it is the first occasion that I have ever felt the need to make an emergency call. I was certainly really pleased by the sight of the Emergency Call Station. On the other hand, the episode and Hong Kong's countryside, has also taught me and I have also learnt yet another valuable lesson.

Once again very many thanks.

Best wishes,

J. Scott

(Editor's note: The officers praised in this letter are PC Yau Shiu-lun, Chan Tai-pong and Suen Kwong-on, all from CPKDIV)
