May 30, 2012 was a big day for many young students when the Presentation of Awards cum Closing Ceremony of the 8th "Project Marching-on" was held at Auxiliary Headquarters before a large gathering of guests and supporters.

Officiating at the ceremony were Sau Mau Ping District (SMPDIST) Commander Ting Hung-kay, SMP District Junior Police Call (JPC) President, Mr Wong Fan-foung, Kowloon East Supervisor of Hong Kong Young Women's Christian Association (HKYWCA), Ms Chan Ming-yee, principals from the three secondary schools participating in the project and volunteers from the SMPDIST Auxiliary Police.

A large gathering of teachers, social workers and parents were on hand to show their support for graduates of the project, which was organised by SMPDIST Police Community Relations Office in conjunction with the HKYWCA Jockey Club Lok Wah Integrated Social Service Centre.

Since 2004, SMPDIST has been working closely with the Lok Wah Centre and volunteers from the SMPDIST Auxiliary Police in implementing "Project Marching-on" in 20-odd schools in the district. The project provides training related to discipline so that project members would identify their potential and beef up their ability of coping with adversity.

During the 2011-2012 financial year, 110 junior form students from three secondary schools took part in foot drill, community services, crime prevention education and adventure-based training.

Speaking at the ceremony, Mr Ting stressed that "Project Marching-on" would not have been so successful without the support by SMP District JPC, HKYWCA, principals, teachers, and volunteer workers. Most importantly, the participation of students and the support by their parents were vital.  The project had achieved the Force's Strategic Direction on engaging the community and expanding the existing community network to strengthen co-operation.

Mr Ting added that the project, with the collaboration among different sectors and disciplines, had provided support and counselling service to help members become righteous and law-abiding citizens.

SMPDIST plans to further enhance "Project Marching-on" in the coming school year to benefit more youngsters.

A fitting finale to the students' training
