For the past two years, Tuen Mun District (TMDIST) has been running a youth project called "Project Smart" as a joint effort with the Hong Kong Federation of Youth Groups (HKFYG).

The targets of the project are the teenagers in Tuen Mun District, especially those put under the Superintendent's Discretion Scheme. By organising different sports activities and physical training, police volunteers and social workers help the youngsters set positive values and identify and develop their potential by taking up challenges.

May 19, 2012 was a special day for the youngsters when the HKFYG held an award ceremony at New Territories South Regional Headquarters to compliment their efforts and positive attitudes over the past year.  At the same time, police volunteers were presented with certificates of award for their contribution to the project.

During the ceremony, the teenagers showed their talents in a variety show, basketball matches, jazz dance and a magic show. In a sharing session, they talked about how they had changed for good throughout the year with the help of their families, social workers and police volunteers. The police volunteers were very impressed with the progress the youngsters had made, and were glad that their efforts for the latter had paid off.
