To acknowledge the contributions made by its frontline officers, Mong Kok District (MKDIST) held a ceremony on June 20 for those members of the public who wished to express appreciation to officers for jobs well done.

Over the past 16 months, MKDIST received about 140 appreciation letters from different sectors of the local community.

At the ceremony, 17 residents presented appreciation letters to 23 officers from Uniform Branch, crime stream officers and Police Community Relations Office.

Some residents also recalled how officers had rendered quality services to them. Mr Chan, owner of a dessert shop, who was the victim of a burglary case handled by District Investigation Team 4 in June last year, said: "The officers were professional, highly efficient and polite. During their investigation, they showed great coordination".

Mr Yeung, who was assisted by Task Force Sub-unit Police Constable Chan Ming-chiu in a dispute case in January last year, said: "Officer Chan was helpful and sincere in manner. He was zealous and patient in interpreting Putunghua to Cantonese."

Ms Wong, Chairman of an Owners' Corporation, commended District Anti-triad Squad officers for handing a case of unlawful assembly and assault. "The officers arrived at the scene promptly and apprehended the youngsters gathering at the housing estate. If the officers had been late, a gang fight would have broken out. The police ensure the residents have a safe place to live in," she noted.

Speaking at the ceremony, District Commander Peter Cornthwaite said support and recognition by the general public were great encouragement for the officers as well as great motivation for them to continue doing their best to serve the community.

He stressed that community policing is an essential part of the MKDIST Policing Plan, adding that his district endeavoured to provide a strong police presence and enhance communication with residents through the system of community liaison points and visiting books.
