KWTDIST runs Project 'Mil Kar' |
||
Kwai Tsing District (KWTDIST) has a big population of different ethnic groups. Among them, a small Pakistani community has been established over the years in the surrounding areas of Tai Pak Tin Street and Ping Lai Path in Kwai Chung. Therefore, KWTDIST has been carrying out Project "Mil Kar" since 2010 in a bid to forge a good communication with the Non-ethnic Chinese (NEC) and help officers remain more sensitive to, and understand better, NEC cultures, religions and backgrounds. Under the project, a total of 33 uniform and crime stream officers have been appointed "NEC Ambassadors" to maintain a close liaison with NEC communities. To help the "NEC Ambassadors" carry out their roles and to boost their confidence in gathering crime intelligence, KWTDIST has provided a series of relevant training, including seminars on NEC cultures, religions and taboos as well as sharing-sessions on intelligence gathering and handling of informers. On June 14, Acting Deputy District Commander Yau Kwok-keung led a party of "NEC Ambassadors" to visit a mosque in Tai Pak Tin Street and meet with mosque leaders and youngsters studying Quaran in the mosque. Through Project "Mil Kar", KWTDIST hopes a strong networking with NEC leaders and relevant non-government organisations would be established so that the NEC would provide for police the crime information and intelligence within their communities.
