PIs and staff support good causes |

During the evening of May 18, Probationary Inspectors (PIs) under training at the Foundation Training Centre were invited to take a short break from their studies to listen to Rail District Chief Inspector (CIP) Simon Southgate share his experiences of running across three deserts, and his work with local charities. CIP Southgate encouraged the PIs to get involved in community projects and local charities. "My work with Operation Breakthrough and the Children's Cancer Foundation has taught me to appreciate how lucky I am, and how thoroughly rewarding it can be to help support others who are less fortunate," said CIP Southgate. Nixon Cheng of PI Squad 541 said: "The photographs that Simon showed of the desert races were amazing. The views were desolate but also very scenic. The presentation and the opportunity to carry the full back pack Simon used during the races also gave me an insight into how far physical and mental endurance can be pushed." Cathay Ngai of PI Squad 548 added: "I was really interested in what Simon had to say about Operational Breakthrough and the Children's Cancer Foundation, and how even the simplest gestures can make such a big difference." The PIs were so impressed with CIP Southgate's presentation that they, together with staff, voluntarily collected an amazing $24 000 to be split equally between Operation Breakthrough and the Children's Cancer Foundation. "I was thrilled at the warm reception I received and the generosity of the Inspectors and staff," said CIP Southgate. In November he travels down to Antarctica to complete the fourth and final race in his 4-Desert Challenge. The PIs' impromptu donation to good causes |
