A delegation of 21 outstanding contestants of the "Hang Seng Bank - Help the Police Fight Crime Competition 2012" will visit Canada in August as fight crime ambassadors of Hong Kong.

Along with other winners, they were presented with awards and scholarships by Commissioner Tsang Wai-hung and the Vice-Chairman and Chief Executive of Hang Seng Bank, Ms Rose Lee, at a prize presentation ceremony at Police Headquarters on July 12.

Commending the contestants for their distinguished performances, Mr Tsang said at the ceremony that he hoped the winners would discharge their responsibilities as fight crime ambassadors and set good examples of fighting crime to their peers.

The Commissioner encouraged the 21 delegates to take the opportunity to share their experience of fighting crime and to participate in cultural exchanges with local youths. Finally, he wished them a fruitful visit to the Royal Canadian Mounted Police and Vancouver Police Department.

Ms Lee said Hang Seng was pleased to have sponsored this meaningful competition for the 10th consecutive time as part of its commitment to grooming young people and equipping them with skills to become future leaders.

She added that the competition promotes development of positive values and called on the winners to continue helping Police fight crime.

Introduced in 1975, the biennial competition is organised by Police Public Relations Branch and has been sponsored by Hang Seng Bank since 1994.

This year's competition attracted a record of over 260 000 participants and featured "Power of Friends" as a theme to convey the key messages of combatting youth drugs abuse, theft and bullying.

The winners of five categories, namely Primary Group, Junior Group, Senior Group, Post Secondary Group, and non-government organisation (NGO) (youth service) Group (including youth uniform groups subvented by Home Affairs Bureau), had gone through three challenging phases comprising web game, quiz, report on newspaper article, essay writing, project presentation on youth crimes, aptitude test and interview.

Forty outstanding participants will be invited to visit Force formations to enhance their understanding of police work.
