Western District (WDIST) held a community engagement session on August 10 to brief the local community on the overall law and order situation in the first six months of this year. Among the guests were chairmen and members of the District Councils and District Fight Crime Committees of Southern District and Central and Western District.

At the briefing session, WDIST Commander Rebecca Lam pointed out that the law and order situation in WDIST saw a notable improvement in the first half of this year, with the number of crime reports being the lowest in the corresponding period in the past eight years.

Detective Inspector Yvonne Leung, Officer-in-Charge of the District Anti-triad Section then presented the figures of different crimes, with emphasis on the modus operandi and preventive measures in respect of miscellaneous theft and telephone deception. At the same time, Station Sergeant Chan Ka-kin of the Regional Crime Prevention Office of Hong Kong Island Region spoke of latest trend of the burglaries on residential and commercial premises.

Finally, the chairmen of the district councils and district fight crime committees praised officers for displaying dedication to duty and professionalism in cracking violent and major crimes earlier this year, including rape, robbery and burglary.

Ms Lam concluded the session by expressing her sincere appreciation to the local community for their long-standing staunch support.
