The 15th inauguration ceremony of the Western District Junior Police Call (WDIST JPC) Honorary President Council was held earlier at Police Officers' Club, witnessed by over 300 guests.

Officiating at the ceremony were Regional Commander Hong Kong Island, Dr Cheuk Chun-yin, Chairman of the Honorary President Council, Mr Cheng Shing-fung; Director General of the Hong Kong Island Sub-office of the Liaison Office of the Chinese People's Government in Hong Kong, Mr Wu Yangwei; District Officer of Central and Western District Office, Ms Cheryl Chow; Chairman of Central and Western District Council, Mr Yip Wing-shing; Chairman of Southern District Council, Mr Chu Ching-hong; and WDIST Commander Rebecca Lam.

Since its establishment in 1985, the Honorary President Council has organised different activities to develop ethics and leadership and instil a sense of civic responsibility and commitment towards society among JPC members. Through participation in an array of publicity activities on fighting crime, the Honorary Presidents and JPC members have also made a great contribution to the law and order in Western District.

Western District JPC has developed rapidly in recent years, with membership having increased year by year to about 10,000 now.

Speaking at the inauguration ceremony, Dr Cheuk reported that the law and order situation in Western District remained stable, thanks to the co-operation by community leaders, citizens, the Honorary President Council and JPC members, besides officers' own efforts.

Finally, Dr Cheuk thanked the out-going Chairman, Mr Ng Siu-keung, for his leadership in developing Western District JPC, which, he predicted, would reach new highs under the guidance of the new Chairman.

The new Honorary Presidents are expected to build on the success of their predecessors
