In a bid to raise the road safety awareness of the locals and tourists, the Road Safety Team of Traffic Kowloon West and the Road Safety Patrol (Kowloon West Region) jointly staged a "Safe and Joyful Crossing in Hong Kong 2012 Carnival" on August 25.

Officiating at the opening ceremony of the carnival at the Hong Kong Cultural Centre Piazza were Senior Superintendent of Traffic Kowloon West Chan Man-yin, Yau Tsim Mong District Officer, Mrs Vicki Kwok; Senior Manager, Event Planning and Sponsorship of the Hong Kong Tourism Board, Miss Helen Chiu; Chairperson of Yau Tsim Mong Road Safety Campaign Committee, Ms Kwan Sau-ling; Regional Commander Kowloon West of Road Safety Patrol, Mr Leung Ching-wah; and Chairman of Classic Car Club of Hong Kong, Mr Ian Foster.

Following the ceremony were variety shows staged by the Hong Kong Vigor Marching Band, Po Leung Kuk Camoes Tan Siu Lin Primary School, Madam Lau Kam Lung Secondary School of Miu Fat Buddhist Monastery and Police Dog Unit. At the same time, 12 rare antique cars, Police armoured Unimog and Police Traffic Bikes were displayed, attracting many tourists who captured the scenes with snapshots. Game booths with road safety as the theme caught the fancy of crowds of children. In addition, leaflets printed in eight different languages were distributed to disseminate the messages. 

During the carnival, over two thousand people were reminded to help achieve Hong Kong's vision: "Zero Accidents on the Road, Hong Kong's Goal".


The carnival hammers road safety messages home to many Non-ethnic Chinese youngsters
