EDIST engages NEC with cooking contest
In line with the Force Strategic Direction on "Engaging the Community", Eastern District (EDIST) teamed up with its strategic partners to organise a "Family Cooking Contest (Curry Cuisine)" on August 25 in a bid to encourage Non-ethnic Chinese (NEC) residents to participate in community activities. The partners in this novel activity were Housing Department (HD), Estate Management Advisory Committee (EMAC), Methodist Epworth Village Community Centre (MEVCC) and Islamic Kasim Tuet Memorial College (IKTMC).
At the invitation of the organisers, a total of 10 families of Pakistani, Indian, Philippine and Portuguese origins living in Chai Wan joined the contest, which aimed at promoting cultural exchanges and communication, engaging the NEC community in fighting and preventing crime, and fostering social responsibilities and a sense of belonging among people of different races.
The contest started in IKTMC following an opening ceremony performed by EDIST Acting Commander Lee Wing-kong, Chief Inspector Chan Wai-kei from EDIST Police Community Relations Office, EDIST Fight Crime Committee Chairperson, Ms Pang Melissa Kaye, EDIST Councillors, Mr Kung Pak-cheung, Mr Leung Chi-kong and Mr Lai Chi-keong, HD Senior Housing Manager, Mr Michael Wong, MEVCC Social Welfare Supervisor, Mr Michael Leung and Vice-principal of IKTMC, Mr Ma Wing-cheung.
EDIST hopes that through the cooking contest NEC residents would gain a better idea of police work, while officers would better realise the former's needs and aspirations.
