The Hong Kong Police Chinese Wushu Club staged a two-hour martial art performance for the "Kung Fu Corner" programme in Kowloon Park, Tsim Sha Tsui, on September 16, drawing laud applause from some 200 spectators, including locals and tourists.

The "Kung Fu Corner" performance, a free entertainment programme jointly presented by Hong Kong Martial Arts Dragon and Lion Dance Association and Leisure and Cultural Services Department in Kowloon Park every Sunday, aims at promoting Chinese "Kung Fu" among the locals and tourists. The Wushu Club took part in the programme in an effort to encourage members to perfect their martial arts skills, and promote healthy lifestyle at the same time.

The club has over 2,000 members and runs 20 training classes on different martial art schools. During the "Kung Fu Corner" programme, club members showcased in different performances the high standard of martial arts they have attained.

As many as over 80 persons of different ages and backgrounds took part in the performances, with the majority being Force members, including police officers, civilians and retired officers from different units as well as their family members. Among them were many couples, parents and children.

There was a variety of individual performances, which included fist and weapon demonstrations of different martial arts schools, "chi gong" (breathing exercises), lion dance and combat techniques, giving the spectators a better idea of what "Kung Fu" is all about and its diversity and practical use.

With the continuous efforts of its martial arts instructors and members, the Wushu Club attained some good results in open competitions recently. On July 15, Police Constable Kwok Wing-chung of Airport District, who is a member of the Police San Da (Kickboxing) Team, captured the title of the 75 kg event for debutants in the Hong Kong Cup Kickboxing Tournament organised by the Hong Kong Wushu Union.

On September 2, 11-year-old Poon Chun-yin, 10-year-old Chow Yuk-leung and nine-year-old Yau Chi-yin, children of Force members and students of the Wushu Club's Hung Fung Style Parents and Children Martial Arts Class, won a number of trophies in the 2012 Hong Kong Martial Arts Open Competition for Children. Poon was the champion in cudgel forms and first runner-up in fist forms in his age group; Chow was first runner-up in fist forms and meritorious trophy winner in cudgel forms in his age group, while Yau clinched the meritorious trophy in fist forms in his age group.
