Commissioner Tsang Wai-hung led a four-member delegation to visit the New Zealand Police (NZP) between February 17 and 21. The highlight of the visit was the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on February 19 between the two Forces to enhance bilateral co-operation in combatting transnational crimes, and to bolster law enforcement capability.

The MOU, signed by Mr Tsang and the Commissioner of NZP, Mr Peter Marshall, at the National Police Headquarters in Wellington, complements existing co-operation between the Force and NZP. It sets out the framework for tackling transnational crimes and also bolsters the partnership in capability-building and professional development.

At the signing ceremony, Mr Tsang emphasised that the two Forces share the same values and the determination to deter transnational crimes. With the established INTERPOL channel of co-operation, the two Forces will continue to seek more development opportunities and commit themselves to meeting future challenges.

While in Wellington, the delegation also visited the command and control centre, Police College and maritime police of NZP.

The delegation later proceeded to Christchurch to study the best practices in emergency response NZP adopted when a major earthquake hit the city in February 2011.
