RCPO NTN thanks elderly Crime Ambassadors |

The Regional Crime Prevention Office of New Territories North (RCPO NTN) has been combatting telephone deception with publicity and education. Besides holding seminars at elderly centres to offer anti-deception tips, RCPO NTN has recruited and trained up a total of 67 Fight Crime Ambassadors for helping to distribute publicity leaflets during crime prevention campaign. At the same time, RCPO NTN has put up banners and posters in public places and screened anti-deception videos in shopping malls and markets to raise awareness of telephone deception. As another anti-deception initiative, RCPO NTN organised an "Anti-Telephone Deception - Fight Crime Publicity Bus Parade 2012" in October last year, during which a recorded slogan by a local singer, Ms Fong Yi-kei, was broadcast. On January 22, RCPO NTN presented appreciation letters to 40 "Fight Crime Ambassadors" and held a prevention of telephone deception seminar for them in Yuen Long Theatre. Officiating guests, NTN Regional Commander So Kam-sing, chairmen of the district fight crime committees in NTN Region, District Commanders and Ms Fong, showed a lot of appreciation for the elders' contributions to crime prevention. RCPO NTN also expressed heartfelt thanks to some local remittance agencies and banks for saving potential victims from suffering financial loss in telephone deception cases. Nearly 1,000 elders turned up at the ceremony to share the joy of their peers and enjoy a lion dance performance, songs by Ms Fong and a Chinese opera.
