The Office of the Government Chief Information Officer (OGCIO) recently announced a new requirement regarding storage of restricted and personal data on mobile devices and removable media.

Under the new requirement, all restricted information and personal data should be encrypted when stored on mobile devices or removable media issued to individual officers. To assist Force members in complying with this new requirement, Information Systems Wing (ISW) has issued a reference guide on the proper encryption methods for Force common devices and media. The guide for using the encryption tool have been uploaded to the "Guideline" section under the Information Security's hexagon in POINT.

To further enhance communication on this new policy, ISW has also issued a memorandum to all Formation Commanders to draw their attention to the policy. In addition, a series of road shows and briefings, including Staff Association Monthly Meeting and Training and Staff Relations Officer Briefing, were held recently to introduce the policy to frontline users at all levels.

Last but not least, Force members' role is very important. Information Security relies on their collective efforts to remain smart and prudent when storing restricted and personal data on mobile devices and removable media.
