Whiskers finds a home

The Wordsworth household has had an assortment of pets over the years, but the longest resident is Whiskers, a rescued rabbit. Tsuen Wan District Commander Steve Wordsworth found Whiskers in 2002 whilst he was out on foot patrol in Tin Sum Division.

"He was running down the road, covered in oil and clearly somewhat panicked. I stopped the traffic and after a short chase I caught him. Back at the station, I logged him into the system." Unfortunately, no one claimed Whiskers and his future was looking bleak. As a found animal the SPCA would only keep him for four days.

"I couldn't leave him to his fate, so decided to adopt him, much to the delight of my two daughters."

Whiskers received a warm reception on arrival at his new home and soon became an established family member.

Emily Wordsworth decided Whiskers was hers and named him. "He is great fun, house trained and now very much a part of our family. During the day he wanders around the flat."

Age is now catching up with Whiskers, although he is doing remarkably well as he is believed to be nearly 12 years old. Whilst he is blind in one eye and has arthritis in the hip, he still wanders out occasionally especially if he smells toasts. "For some reason he loves toast and will nibble at your feet until given a piece."
