Acting New Territories South Regional Commander Steven Carruthers and Traffic Kowloon West Senior Superintendent Chan Man-yin took salute at the annual inspections of the New Territories South Road Safety Patrol and the Kowloon West Road Safety Patrol respectively on February 24.

Addressing 24 Road Safety Teams from secondary and primary schools as well as kindergartens, Mr Carruthers said it was particularly heartening to see so many well-disciplined and smart young people on parade, who give up their time and energy for road safety.

"Road Safety is a top concern of the Police and this is reflected by the fact that it is one of the Commissioner's Operational Priorities for 2013.  Whilst the Police will do its best to reduce traffic accidents, success would depend on the assistance and support of the community.

Meanwhile, Mr Chan told 34 teams comprising 700 members that the figures of traffic accidents causing deaths and serious injuries in Kowloon West had dropped significantly so far this year. Thanking the Kowloon West Road Safety Patrol members for promoting road safety, he emphasised that the Police would continue to adopt a multi-agency approach in a bid to achieve the vision of "Zero Accidents on the Road, Hong Kong's Goal".
