New Territories North (NTN) Region has been running a Best Security Guard Awards Scheme annually to compliment outstanding security guards since 2006. Effective security management not only relies on the performance of security personnel, but also requires quality security management measures to achieve optimum effect.  Therefore, the award scheme brings security personnel together for sharing experience and quality security management for the benefit of their professionalism.

There are many construction and road works sites in NTN and the security of these sites is a major concern for NTN Region. NTN Regional Crime Prevention Office therefore held the Best Security Guard Awards 2012 Scheme and the Best Construction Site Security and Management Awards 2012 Scheme with a view to reminding employees to pay more attention to the security of the sites and encouraging them to further improve their services.

The presentation ceremony of the two award schemes was held at Yuen Long Theatre on February 28. A total of 3,368 security guards from 189 housing estates took part in the Best Security Guard Awards 2012 Scheme.  An adjudication panel comprising members of Security and Guarding Services Industry Authority, Hong Kong Security Association and Crime Prevention Bureau selected 440 Outstanding Award winners from the record-breaking number of participants.  Amongst the winners, 10 groups were picked for the Most Outstanding Ten Best Security Guards and amongst the Ten Best Security Guards, the gold, silver and bronze awards winners were selected.

The Best Construction Site Security and Management Awards 2012 Scheme attracted 62 construction sites in NTN.  Members of Department of Mechanical Engineering of Hong Kong University, Hong Kong Association of Property Management and Crime Prevention Bureau selected winners of the gold, silver and bronze awards for Category of Residential Construction Site and Category of Roadside Construction Works.

Among the guests of honour at the presentation ceremony were NTN Regional Commander So Kam-sing, Chairman of Security and Guarding Services Industry Authority, Mr Daniel Cham, and chairpersons of all the District Fight Crime Committees in NTN.

At the ceremony, video clips on how the winners won their gold awards were played before over 800 guests.
